A 27yr-old wife, Hindatu Kazai, has allegedly brutalised her husband to a coma and skinned his scalp in Dengi, Kanam local government area of Plateau State.
The victim, 43yr-old Mukthari Yahaya, alias Tester, who was brutally injured by his wife with a pestle before peeling off the skin on his head, is said to be currently receiving first aid treatment at General Hospital Dengi, while on recomendations for referral to a more advanced medical facility.
According to eyewitnesses living in the same compound with the victim, the couple have been married for three years and Hindatu, who has a co-wife, may have been motivated by jealousy.
Youths in the area did not spare Hauwa, as they resorted to beating her to a pulp when they found out what she had done.
Reacting to the incident, the Security Adviser to Kanam Local Government Chairman, Mustapha Bawas, said that a resident of Garga Street in Dengi had called to inform him that a woman carrying a baby was sighted looking unstable and making attempts to escape.
“It was immediately noticed that blood was streaming from their room; upon inquiry, she was not in the room and her husband was in blood. Then, the victim’s elder brother was called upon and he quickly got her (sic) while we rushed the victim to hospital”, he said.
He further stated that he quickly took action by alerting the relevant authorities and that the woman is currently in Police custody.
On his part, the Divisional Police Officer-in-charge of the area said he does not have authority to speak on the matter but had filed the case to the State Police Command.
When contacted, the Plateau State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Aspubah Gabriel Ogaba, said he would get details of the incident and get back to this reporter.
Hours later without feedback, he was again contacted but the calls rang out without response. When sent a text message, he replied with a tarse, “My statement is this: I will get details about it. Thanks.”
